Clinique | Moisture Surge Intense

I'm not one for writing up negative reviews on my blog because of two reasons: 1.) I like to keep things positive and 2.) like most beauty bloggers I like to do my fair share of research before purchasing something. Still, sometimes you'll be left disappointed with a product that got stellar reviews. I had super high hopes for Clinique's Moisture Surge Intense moisturizer. I ran out of my old one and was just looking for something new try. My skin is super dry and I was trying to see if there was anything more hydrating. I had tried this at my friend's house when I didn't have any of my things and it was brilliant! Maybe I didn't get the right one, but for some reason this one just doesn't sit right with me. It was both the regular Moisture Intense, as well as the Moisture Surge Intense. The consistency is whipped and very smooth. It feels super nice on the skin but that's as far as it goes. I never understood the feeling of having a product just sit on top of your skin, until now. This moisturizer does moisturizer but it does not sink into the skin at all. It also made my skin feel super tacky. I had my boyfriend touch my cheek to see if it felt funny and he said it felt clamy. This was a problem because when I went to apply my foundation in the morning it made it so that the foundation also just sat on top of my skin. It started just sliding around all over the place through out the day. I know it's not my foundation because it was my Dr. Jart ++ Waterfuse and I haven't had any problems with it. I returned it straight away and went back to my Imperialis moisturizer from LUSH because it's moisturizing and actually hyrdates my skin instead of sitting there for show.

That's the problem with having so many products available in one category, you start second guessing or wanting to branch out. Consider my lesson learned. I would not recommend this product to ... anyone. It may seem like that moisture seems up your ally, but what's the point if it's not actually hydrating your skin?

Have you tried this moisturizer? What were your thoughts? What's your favorite moisturizer to use? SO MANY QUESTIONS!

  3. I have a sample of this and am yet to use so will break it out soon to try it out, and not when I have no other moisturisers (who am I kidding, that will never happen!)
I have quite oily/combination skin, which is why I've help off on trying it out yet, but if it doesn't suit me I'd prefer to know sooner rather than later!
Your blog layout is so pretty, I'm so jealous. I've just tried to update mine a bit but it still isn't what I want yet, but I will persevere.
Hope you've had a lovely week

    1. If you have skin on the oilier side I would def. advise you to not even bother. It feels so sticky and tacky on my super dry skin, I'm not sure how much you'll get on with it.
& thank you! I had a really good blogger friend do it for me! I can give you her page/e-mail if you want to talk about a spicing things up? she's super afforadable and I can't pimp her out enough :)

  4. I also have a sample of this that I've yet to use. I don't tend to prefer clinique skin care. I don't like the dramatically different so I don't think I'd like this much either.

    1. You wouldn't honestly. Especially when you're probably more used to a moisturizer actually quenching your skin. I don't think I'll be preferring it either :/

  5. Ewww moisturizers that sit an top of the skin are one of the worst things :( I put my favorite moisturizer in my favorites this month (The Lancome Triple Renewal blurp blop whatever it's called [it's been a long day]) so I'm sure you already know mine!!

  6. I use to use a gel type moisturizer by Garnier and it didn't do much for me either. I feel like it didn't fully sink in, or even hydrate my skin that well. Right now I'm trying out a bunch of new ones and will be posting about them soon xx - Boho Vanity

  7. I completely agree with you on this one! In college I used to use the Moisture Surge (original formula) and loved it! When the came out with the Intense version I decided to give it a try too. I don't understand the hype! It is so sticky and smells awful! To each their own I guess

    1. OMG it does smell awful! It was somehting I was willing to bear, but so not worth it. I feel bad when I don't like a product but c'mon! I wanted a surge of moisture to my skin, not a layer of goop on my face! :)

  8. I’ve been using Clinique moisture surge intense skin fortifying hydrator for a month now and I am more than happy with the results!
