#IMATSNYC 2013

IMATS: International Makeup Artist Trade Show

IMATS. The magical land of make up brands, products, and discounts galore. There is not a single beauty girl I know who knows about IMATS and doesn't at least dream of going. IMATS has been an event I have been looking forward to for months and I honestly can't believe it's already over. A lot of you may not know this but IMATS is what inspired me to create this blog. The event itself, and all the products and experiences I'd get to share with people. So now excuse me whilst I have #IMATSwithdrawal.

The IMATS that I attended was in NYC. This year I couldn't go with my BIF (Best Internet Friend) Julia, but I did get to go with my mom and I had a FANTASTIC time! I got to discover an amazing new brand that before IMATS I didn't even know existed (BTW, why don't more people talk about this brand? I'm in freakin' love with it!) and that brand is Lit Cosmetics. But I'm going to save my rave of them for a separate occasion or else this train will go completely off track. Unlike last year, I was completely prepared this year with comfy shoes, pre-IMATS coffee, and the confidence to take my time and push my way through clusters of humans. It ended up being super fun! My mom and I were running from booth to booth playing with anything we could lay our hands on (and then running over to the make up wipe booths to clean our slates, haha!). It was great to see my mom excited for the events and booths as well (she was a bit naughty with her purchases!). She bumped into a free standing sign and almost knocked it over which was hilarious. She was also disturbed and in awe of all the make up artistry taking place around her which was so cute to watch, haha!

I didn't get a chance to whip out my camera a lot and whenever I did my flash would not pop up and just shut down my whole camera. I did manage to get a few shots though and thought I'd share some with you all!
The INGLOT booth was my first stop! Had to get in there before the crowd around it would start thickening. I knew exactly what I wanted so luckily I didn't have to push through to the eyeshadows and start swatching in a squish.
Lit Cosmetics. My next stop and my new holy land.
We waited on line for 40 minutes to get to this point and see all the gorgeous glitters! The girl helping out and dolled out in makeup was just the absolute sweetest to us as we went about swatching almost every glitter. The girls behind us weren't so kind, haha!
I grabbed this pic off of Lit Cosmetics' Instagram. There was a (very entertaining) woman (who I think was the creator of this company!) glitterfying people's make up looks. She had every glitter laid out in front of her and just by looking at it you can imagine there would be crowding around this gem. I could stare at this for ages!
The Battle of the Brushes models. The one on the far right was my favorite. I don't think she won though ):
Took a photo with this lovely flower! She sort of reminded me of my Marc Jacobs Daisy Sunshine perfume bottle, haha! She also made me wish it was actually springy outside. It was freezing that morning!
We visited the little museum they had on the sides and look what I found! Doctor Who creations!

My second year at IMATS was amazing and is only making me that much more excited for my next one. I may or may not try to get myself to LA in January 2014, but no promises (to myself). I had a really fun experience and came away with some amazing new goodies to play with (I'll share those soon in another post ;)). I'm glad I got to experience this with my mom and I'm already awaiting for IMATS NYC 2014! For now, I think I'll live vicariously through the #IMATSNYC tag on Instagram. (so pathetic, right?) LOL, oh well :)

Tutorial | Smoked Lavender

Hey guys! Happy, happy Sunday! This is strange for me because I usually never post on the weekends but I haven't got work to do (for once) and something exciting to share so I thought, why not? Live dangerously and all that jazz, yeah? Haha! Anywhos, I was thinking of a tutorial to do for my YouTube channel and wanted to do something exciting for spring, but not something bright. So I went straight to a smoky eye but I wanted to make it a bit different and more spring like. Since spring is all about bringing out our 'pops of color' I decided to create a smoky eye with a pop of color. Pretty straightforward thinking, right? This tutorial is what I came up with! I used deep browns to keep the smoky eye from getting to harsh and lavender as my pop of color! I don't know why I've been so drawn to wearing variations of purples this year, but I'm loving it! I'm actually super happy with that way the eyes turned out! I've never been comfortable with smoking out my eye looks but I think I did a pretty good job (if I do say so myself!) If you'd like to see how I created this look, the tutorial is right down below. I'd totally appreciate you taking the time to watch and give me some feedback. Let me know what you think!

Marc Jacobs Daisy Sunshine

Perfumes are one of my favorite things to treat myself to. I love spending hours sniffing tons of different  perfumes to maybe find one I'll love or just for fun. With perfumes I'm all about judging a book by the cover. The packaging matters to me almost as much as the scent and this Marc Jacobs Daisy Sunshine perfume has it all. I bought this recently on my trip to Cancun and I instantly fell in love with three, quintessentially springy, flowers laid on top of the cover. It's cutesy and fun and something I totally love seeing sit on my shelf. The scent is amazing, too and what really won me over! It's a perfect blend of fruity and floral notes. The scent is sweet, it's fun, and it just screams spring time playfullness. Sunshine has quickly become my 'go to' spring scent, replacing my more wintery Miss Dior Cherie! And take a look at just how photogenic this beaut is! I couldn't resist sharing it with you guys!
What is your 'go to' spring scent? Share with me below. I'm always on the hunt to discover new perfumes!

NOTD | 'Geeked' Out for IMATS

If you guys don't follow me on twitter you probably haven't totally picked up on how stoked I am that IMATS is this weekend. I've already half planned my outfit and done my nails out of sheer excitement so I thought I'd share them with you today! Over the the weekend I went to see the movie Spring Breakers with my dude friends and Rico Suave and while that movie was just the weirdest spit I've ever seen, I managed to get some nail-spiration. Vanessa Hudgens sported a two-nail accent manicure (you couldn't miss it as she kept forming a gun with her hands to fake shoot things) and for some reason it stood out to me. It looked really cool! Her index finger and thumb were accented in one color and the rest were painted in another! The shirt I'm wearing to IMATS is my GEEK shirt from TopShop so I pulled the blue and maroon colors as inspiration. I used Essie's Turquoise & Caicos for the blue and the Free Press Power Plum for the maroon shade. I didn't have an exact color match for the maroon, but it was close! I'm really happy with the end result. I feel very cool (which is so lame that it makes me uncool, but whatever!!! hahaha) I can't wait to sport these nails with my complete outfit at IMATS, swatching and handing over credit cards and cash in exchange for awesome new toys! (Beauty products are my toys, shhh!)

I'm just honestly so excited for IMATS! It's the second most wonderful time of the year ... okay, third, (holidays, my birthday, IMATS ...). I'll probably have nothing to tweet about once it's over which is sad, but oh well! I also did the IMATS tag, which was really fun (although I recommend you lower your volume, my voice gets a tad squeaky from the get go) and I'd love it if you guys would watch it!

Have any of you lovelies ever gone to IMATS? Would you ever to go?

March Favorites

Happy April! April is an exciting month because as soon as it's over my birthday happens (and my birthday is like a National Holiday to me) and then it means classes are THIS close to being out for the summer! Woo! But before we can enjoy April and all the showers it will spring upon (pun intented!) I have some March favorites to share with you! There aren't many and I seriously stretched to remember what I loved in the month of March because beauty and wearing makeup were not top on my list because of school stress. Regardless, I picked just my absolute favorites and that got some good use this month! Here we go:
  • Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipsticks | I won't get into too detailed of a review on these because that will be coming up quite soon but these are part of Maybelline's Color Sensational collection and true to name the color pigmentation and shades are sensational! The Vivids line has the most gorgeous neon colors and I love them so much I want to get a few more!
  • NARS Orgasm Blush | This blush has been the only blush I've reached for this month. It's not even remotely warm outside just yet but I've still started to embrace the golden and glowy skin. This blush is a gorgeous coral-pink color that gives a nice flush of color and the gold sheen throughout leaves a nice youthful flow on the cheeks.
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Transparent | I bought this powder as a 'limbo' powder for while I'm between powders (powder, powder, powder) but I'm pleasantly pleased with it! Whenever I could be bothered to put foundation on it smoothed the look of it and did a nice job of keeping it put all day. Most of the time I just buffed this into my skin without foundation and what made this a favorite was that it toned down the redness of my face. Even after I burned it in Cancun, haha! I wasn't quite sure about this powder at first but I quite like it :)
  • Ralph Lauren Big Pony 2 Rollerball | Out of all the Big Pony perfumes by Ralph Lauren 2 is the best. It's the perfect mix of floral and fruity. The scent is amazing but the reason it's my favorite is because whenever I had to pull all nighters and everything I had to do was about to send me into an anxiety attack this scent would just calm me down. I don't know why, I honestly don't! I would put a little on my wrists and then behind my ear and I'd instantly calm down a bit. Maybe it was just the ritual of it, but I def. had to share this a favorite because it got me through March!
  • Swarovksi Starfish Earrings | I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned these in a favorite or what not post but here they are! They are my Starfish earrings. Readers new and old can probably guess why I love these earrings. They are cute little starfishes and I cherish them. Even when my hair is down people manage to see them and compliment me on them so they must be doing something right, haha!
  • Radioactive by Imagine Dragons | This song is just .... EVERYTHING. I cannot stop listening to it. It's all I've been listening to. I want to choreographer a fist-pounding-floor dance to it. I'm already planning a tutorial that's so epic only this song would be appropriate. I found this on tumblr and thought it expressed my feeling for this song to a T.

Not a whole lot of favorites for March, hopefully there'll be some exciting products to include and share next month considering IMATS is this weekend! Super exciting!

Have you tried any of the products above? What did you think? What's your absolute favorite of March?
