Polishes Any Mermaid Would Love

The best thing about being one of the few mermaid (don't argue with me and just let me believe!) bloggers is that I get to bring you mermaid themed posts, which are my absolute favorite to come up with and write! I've only written one other that I can remember (a gift guide for the Merfolk in your life which you can find here) and you guys seemed to enjoy it. So today I'm bringing you guys a list of some of my very favorite and very best 'mermaid' polishes. Personally I could wear these colors all year round, that's just me, but these polishes would also be great to wear for the warmer seasons! The six colors I chose, I chose because they reminded me of mermaids, the ocean, or the beach. Without further ado, here they are:

:: Deborah Lippman's Across The Universe ::

This polish always made me think of the little lagoons you find at the beach. With the dark navy base, big green glitters, and smaller blue shimmers it looks like the ocean at night. Pair it with a black polish as a base and the result will be absolutely stunning!

This polish reminds me of the scales on a mermaid tail. The blue-teal polish is metallic and reflects light beautifully. This was my first 'mermaid' polish and I used to wear it every single day!

:: Julie G Nail Color Mermaid's Tale ::

Mermaid's Tale is the newest edition to my mermaid polish collection and I'm already in love with it! One the nails this color has some serious shine to it and looks like the shimmering water of the ocean. The base of this color is blue but when light reflects on it you can see green glimmering through the blue.

I just noticed that I've used up half of this nail polish. WOT?! Anyway, this polish is gorgeous, stunning, and totally worth it's $18-$19 price tag. The way the seafoam green base was paired with the blue/green shimmer just reflects the epitome of what a mermaid's nail polish should be. It dries textured and looks just like you'd imagine a mermaid's tale to look like from afar.

:: Essie Turquoise & Caicos ::

This polish is the mint/teal color that every beauty girl goes searching for when the weather starts to get warm. It's a no non-sense color that's fun to pair with other brighter colors. It simple yet always reminds me of the super clear ocean water you see in pictures of islands (def. not the water where I live!)

:: Sephora by OPI Chest-nuts About You ::

Now you might be wondering why I included this nail polish shade in a post dominated by blues and greens. I almost didn't include it but every time I look at it I think of pink sandy beaches. The polish is metallic and a rose gold color. It applies smoothly but you still see little grains of shimmer that are just so reminiscent of the soft sand on beaches.

There you have it! Six polishes that are sure to remind you of majestic mermaids, beautiful ocean water, and sandy beaches. If anything, they'll just make you oh so excited for spring and summer when you'll actually be able to go to the beach! Review: Deborah Lippmann Across The Universe

Holy hot goodness! Is probably what you are thinking when you see this polish! I bought it when I was naughty last week and got it before my wish list even went up. Oups. But can you blame?! Look at the gorgeous glitter and sparkle? Sorry for the like KABLOO of pictures but each one showed some hidden layer within the color so I thought it was in your best reading pleasure to add them all! I should probably state the name, haha! This Deborah Lippmann's Across The Universe glitter polish that retails for $18. I didn't even think twice. The price is insane, I know, but so is this polish! The base of this polish is a jelly-like navy color and it's jam packed with blue and green hexagonal glitters; along with oceanic blue micro glitters. In all these pictures I used three coats of polish along with a base and top coat. A lot of the time bloggers will penalize a polish for needing more than two coats. I used three because I wanted a really deeply opaque nail. With two coats the coverage was opaque as well but the third coat really makes it stand out and gets people to take notice! I have no complaints about formulation and as always the glitters in this polish, as with all Deborah Lippmann glitter polishes, work with you instead of against you! I'm adding this color to my collection of Mermaid/Sea themed nail polishes. Such a beauty to behold and ugh, the glass packaging just adds a cherry on top of this gorgeous sundae!

Review: Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Dream

I will now give you a few seconds to stop hyperventilating from the awesomeness of this color. No seriously, just take a few seconds I can wait. Okay? Okay. Deborah Lippmann's Mermaid's Dream. You guys probably remember that I am a sucker for anything to do with mermaids and I told you guys that if it's got mermaid in the name I honestly can't resist. Well ... example number 2! Haha 

What a beautiful color! It's nothing like I have ever seen before! I'm having trouble even describing it. I'm at that point where I just tell you guys to just stare at the swatches and hand your credit card to the online shopping monster! ;) The formula of the polish is unusual. It's thick, but at the same time it applies so smoothly and evenly. It's not at all streaky and you can most certainly get away with one coat, although I did use two! 

The color is a seafoam green, lighter or darker depending on the lighting you're in. It has blue and green glitters in it. It doesn't at all overpower the base color, just adds something extra, a sparkle and shimmer! Every time I looked down at my nails to describe what it reminds me of I thought of coral. It's got the glitter of the sea and the rough texture that I can imagine coral having. Now you're probably seeing "rough texture" and thinking well now I don't want a gritty polish! It's not like that all! It is so difficult to describe so I'll just stop here.

I have nothing bad to say about this polish. The color is gorgeous, so unique, and simply like no other. The formula is impeccable as is the pigmentation. I had this on for a week and it looked as it were no were near chipping. To put it simply; GO GET IT. NOW. SHOO!

Review: Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop

Before I even begin my review I'd like to take this small space to say a few words about Deborah Frickin' Lippmann. I first saw her nail polishes reviewed on the beauty blog Temptalia and then a small hand full on Amarixe's beauty blog. My first reaction was "eh". I'm not kidding. I said eh, and was astonished that these polishes sold for $16 ($18!!! if it was a glitter). But then beauty.com was having a 20% sale and I saw her polishes on the site. So I decided to investigate a little further and looked up some swatches of a handful of colors.

OH. MY. GOOD GOLLY. GOSH. This women makes polishes for a reason. Deborah Lippmann has some of the most unique glitter and holo and even plain jane nail polishes that I have ever laid eyes on. And she even got me with a mermaid nail polish (remember? sucker for the mermaid polishes...) So I shelled out the money and I bring you this review ...

Candy Shop is a Deborah Lippmann polish that is so fun and so girly. It is unlike any glitter I've ever had. The polish has a sweet candy pink base and then is jam packed (would injected be a better word? haha) with rainbow glitters. Just looking at the polish in the bottle makes me salivate for cotton candy!

I love that in this nail polish the glitters come out with the base. Unlike most glitters I've worked with where you almost had to scoop to get any glitters. When you apply the brush to the nail the glitters transfer and don't start to migrate with every brush stroke. This is especially good for those like me who always layer two coats no matter what the polish. It creates dimension and layers of glitter that I personally have never seen with glitter polish. Everything lays flat and with a good thick coating of top coat you shouldn't even be able to feel the glitters. 

The pink of the base really shines through and enhances the whole polish rather than fighting to be seen under all the happy and fun glitters.

It saddens me to do this but there are a couple of cons to this otherwise gorgeous nail polish. As I said before, when you apply the polish the glitters transfer and then don't budge. The bad thing about that is that if you get too much glitter on one side of the nail, babam! It's staying there in a heap of glitter. There's no moving it around, otherwise you're just helping the mountain grow.

Lastly, this is going to be a doosey and pardon my French as I say this, this polish is THE most ANNOYING FREAKIN' THING TO WIPE OFF. The pink base comes off beautifully but then you're left with monster glitters on your nail that only shred cotton pads and balls to bits! I was scraping off the glitters with my teeth for a good 30 minutes on just one hand!

I'm not sure if that would ever be a deal breaker for me because this polish is truly one of a kind in my book, but my GOD. There needs to be a better way to remove this guy! 

I look forward to trying and buying more of Deborah Lippmann polishes. These polishes are one of those things that when I fork over $18 I don't feel a gut-wrenching guilt in the pit of my wallet. So I'd say this was absolutely worth a look-see. And perhaps go on the hunt for a super hero nail polish remover? Haha!
